An Eoconodon (left) runs through his tropical habitat as it existed about 800,000 years after the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) asteroid impact that destroyed the world of the dinosaurs. Leguminous plants (lower right) helped fuel rapid mammalian evolution. Based on fossils found at Corral Bluffs, Colorado, east of Colorado Springs.
