About the Artist

Author/illustrator, R. Gary Raham, loves to bring science alive—especially paleontology and natural history—through his writing and illustrating work. He has written 21 titles of science fact and/or science fiction. Raham often illustrates his own work. He also creates images that tell their own stories, and has been fortunate to see many of them hanging in various exhibitions and galleries. His first career, however, was teaching biology to high school and middle school students in Akron, Colorado. Raham creates under the name Biostration, a business whose credo is “the place where science, art, and education synergize.”

The illustration entitled "The View From a Throne" was inspired by a paleontology field trip to Yellow Cat Quarry in the late 90s. The dinosaur Utah raptor was discovered there, a dinosaur that closely matched the raptor imagined by Stephen Spielberg in Jurassic Park. It is also a great place for humans to gather humility and inspiration from the immense beauty of the surrounding universe.

For many years Raham has created entrance sign illustrations and designs for the city of Fort Collins Natural Areas.
